Founders Amy Gillen and Emily Garner bring decades of litigation and transactional experience across commercial, real estate, arbitration, and regulatory matters, delivering high-level representation with the responsiveness and individual attention of a boutique firm. Amy holds law licenses in Indiana and New York, actively serving clients across both states.
Amy brings 30 years of commercial litigation and contracts experience to the firm. Her practice offers a balance of big-city sophistication and practical, client-focused strategy.
After earning her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1996, she joined boutique and mid-sized firms in Manhattan and Westchester County, New York. During this time, she represented clients in complex commercial litigation, real estate disputes, and judgment enforcement. She regularly appeared in state and federal courts throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Later, Amy spent over a decade as outside counsel for a top Manhattan public relations firm. In this role, she drafted and negotiated contracts for high-profile clients, including Ritz-Carlton, Colonial Williamsburg, the Cayman Islands, Target, Lululemon Athletica, Schwinn Bicycles, Olympic athletes, and luxury boutique hotels nationwide.
At Garner & Gillen, Amy represents corporate clients across several industries, including real estate development, import-export, technology, and financial services. She guides businesses through complex commercial disputes and international arbitration.
Her practice also covers commercial leasing, mortgage foreclosures, mergers and acquisitions, domestic securities law, and SEC compliance. She frequently prepares Rule 144 legal opinions for clients. Additionally, as a lifelong pet owner, Amy maintains a dedicated practice in pet-related law.
Amy and Emily established Garner & Gillen after recognizing a shared passion for collaborative, client-focused legal work. Outside the office, Amy enjoys discovering new restaurants, traveling with family, and working on detailed needlepoint projects.
Emily holds law licenses in Alabama and New York, representing clients in both jurisdictions.
Emily represents individuals and businesses in high-stakes legal matters and complex commercial disputes. She combines overarching strategy with practical execution in commercial litigation, corporate transactions, and cross-border arbitration.
Her background includes representing clients before major international arbitral bodies. She has led matters before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, and the Swiss Arbitration Centre.
Beyond dispute resolution, Emily advises clients on real estate, foreclosure matters, asset protection, and regulatory compliance. This range gives her insight into enterprise risk and daily operations.
Emily also specializes in advocating for pet businesses, veterinary professionals, and animal-focused entrepreneurs. She pairs sophisticated legal strategy with a genuine passion for the animal care industry.

Emily earned her B.A. in Psychology from St. Martin’s University and her J.D. from Concordia University School of Law, earning a CALI Award in Alternative Dispute Resolution. When she is not advocating for clients, she enjoys exploring the coastline with her husband and their dogs.

As the official mascot of Garner & Gillen, Atticus maintains office morale and greets visitors. He also makes sure the team takes regular snack breaks throughout the workday.
While his legal background remains limited, Atticus reminds the firm to lead with warmth, loyalty, and personality every day.
